What is Poverty?

Poverty and Wealth

The stork flew over a town one day,
And back of each wing an infant lay;
One to a rich man’s home he brought,
And one he left at a labourer’s cot.
The rich man said, ‘My son shall be
A lordly ruler o’er land and sea.’

When we look at what we have, any amount is considerably larger than what others have altogether. While we have beautiful houses and many meals a day, others have nothing. Billions live in extreme poverty and millions starve each and every day. Every few seconds, young children die of starvation.

This is a website that is dedicated to informing the world about many of the causes of poverty. Along with information about poverty in general, they do research into global wealth distribution and foreign aid work along with other issues.

Looking heavily at poverty, the UN has put out a goal to try and rally together the countries of the world to help end poverty and aid those in squalor. Mainly, they are trying to add stability (economic and agricultural) to these nations, along with creating a sense to help those who are truly less fortunate than others. As of now, they plan on reducing major, extreme poverty by 2015.
