Ethnicity, Race, and the World

Here are two different videos that deal with issues on both Race, Ethnicity, and how they factor into a personal identity. Both are very different. The first is in a documentary-style format, going about interviewing others on how ethnicity affects them as humans. The second deals with a monologue about race and the diversity amongst each of us, including those in our own race.

-Understanding Society-
http://understandingsociety.blogspot.com/2010/09/race-and-racism.html
While another blog, this one gives wonderful insight on how society reacts to both race and ethnicity, as well as negative aspects such as racism. Furthermore, it talks about the attitudes and behaviors that many display and how this affects others.

-Racial Profiling-
http://www.amnestyusa.org/us-human-rights/racial-profiling/page.do?id=1106650
A website devoted to looking at current human issues that some consider acceptable from general protection. In this, they look at different cases of racial profiling, which is a form of discrimination based upon racial and ethnic suspicions without any reasonable concern or need.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
By Maya Angelou

A free bird leaps on the back of the wind
and floats downstream till the current ends
and dips his wing in the orange suns rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage
can seldom see through his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and his feet are
tied so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the
sighing trees and the fat worms
waiting on a dawn-bright lawn and
he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the
grave of dreams his shadow shouts
on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are
tied so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.
